Hewlett-Packard Partners With Microsoft, Novell And Red Hat To Streamline Sun Migrations - Update

Tuesday, Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) said that it has partnered with Microsoft Corp.(MSFT), Novell Inc. (NOVL) and Red Hat Inc.(RHT) to provide service offerings, incentives and training programs to help streamline migration from Sun to HP solutions. The company said the partnership would reduce total cost of ownership.

Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett-Packard said that during the 12-month period ended October 31, more than 350 customers migrated from Sun systems to HP solutions.

The new HP complete care program benefits include improved ease of use with a 50% discount on SUSE Linux Enterprise Fundamentals on-demand training,expanded access to migration expertise with up to 25% off Red Hat Global Training and greater support with the migration competency center in Grenoble, France, which provides assessment and proof-of-concept services for customers.

The company's partner relationships also empower customers to choose the operating system that best meets the needs to run on HP ProLiant, HP BladeSystem and HP Integrity server platforms that includes HP's UNIX operating system HP-UX 11i, Microsoft Windows Server, Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Sun Solaris.

Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft's partnership will deliver reliable, flexible, standards-based platforms for application and database solutions. The new releases of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and upcoming release of SQL Server 2008 R2 deliver enhanced scalability,enabling customers to easily consolidate workloads and reduce total cost of ownership.

The company said that its partnership with Novell will provide customers a highly interoperable alternative to Sun Solaris with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, which runs on HP Integrity and HP ProLiant servers.

Further, the company noted that the customers can use Hewlett-Packard and Red Hat's mutual migration services to benefit from standards-based open source, while managing risk and reducing costs.

Sepeartely, Hewlett-Packard announced that PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP has joined its HP Agility Alliance to provide business transformation solutions and services. The HP Agility Alliance is a coalition of application and business service providers that work with HP Enterprise Services to develop and provide dynamic business solutions. The alliance would help clients streamline their business processes and achieve a greater return on their technology investments.

The collaboration will provide solutions and services including transfoemational enterprise resource planning or ERP, business transformation, governance, risk and compliance and industry solutions.

HPQ is currently trading at $51.08, up $0.40 or 0.79% on a volume of 9.6 million shares on the NYSE.MSFT is currently trading at $30.17,up $0.06 or 0.20% on a volume of 22.2 million shares on the Nasdaq.

NOVL is currently trading at $4.12,up $0.04 or 0.98% on a volume of 1.3 million shares on the Nasdaq.RHT is currently trading at $29.11,down $0.19 or 0.65% on a volume of 0.9 million shares on the NYSE.
