Italy is ready to publish stress test results of its banking system, Bank of Italy Governor Mario Draghi said Friday, welcoming an EU decision to make public the stress test results.

Draghi, who is also a member of the European Central Bank Governing Council, said he is glad to see that a gradual consensus is growing in Europe for having the stress tests published. He added that it is something he has been supporting since the very beginning.

Yesterday, European Union leaders have agreed to make public the results of bank stress tests to restore some investor confidence in the area. European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the tests would be released on a bank-by-bank basis. "This should reassure investors by either lifting unfounded suspicion or by dealing with the remaining problems they may exist," he said in a press conference following a key summit in Brussels.
