Wabtec Corp. (WAB) said on Friday that its MotivePower business unit has been selected by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority or MBTA, a commuter railroad that serves eastern and central Massachusetts, to supply 20 of MotivePower's next generation, advance-designed, HSP46 passenger locomotives at a cost not to exceed $114.63 million. The locomotives will be manufactured in Boise, Idaho with major components supplied by GE Transportation of Erie, Pennsylvania.
MotivePower's new HSP46 design leverages a broad spectrum of U.S.-based engineering and manufacturing capabilities to set the new standard for performance expectations in the industry, with improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and lower life-cycle costs.
