Mathew Knowles, father of Beyoncé and founder of Music World Entertainment, has been named to the board of trustees of his alma mater Fisk University. Knowles graduated from the traditionally African American institution in Nashville in 1974.

"I remember being at Fisk's radio station with a fraternity brother, David Lombard, and all we did was dream," Knowles says in a press release. "David went on to put together a group called En Vogue and I put together a group called Destiny's Child, and it was because of a dream right here at Fisk University."

Fisk President Hazel R. O'Leary says that Knowles' business skills and passion for the University make him a perfect fit for the board.

"Fisk is honored that its alumnus and international businessman Mathew Knowles will join our Board of Trustees. His strategic skills and worldview compliment those of our concurrent Board Members as we prepare our students for leadership and engagement in the local and global communities," O'Leary says.
