Sting's Lake House Once Held A 200 Pound Meteorite In Front Yard

When Sting and wife Trudie Styler bought their Lake House estate in England's rural Wiltshire County in the early 1990s, a 93 kilogram meteorite that had sat near the front door for at least 80 years did not come with the property.

Before the sale, the Bailey family, from whom Sting bought the house, loaned the meteorite to the Natural History Museum in London, where the stone found itself sitting in storage for nearly twenty years.

But now, thanks to the efforts of Colin Pillinger, a planetary scientist at the Open University in Milton Keynes, U.K., and curator of the Royal Society exhibit, the meteorite is on display at the Royal Society in London until March 30. This fall it will go on display at Wiltshire's Salisbury Museum, a museum that also houses many artifacts found at Stonehenge.
