According to a new study, men have shown a significant increase in obesity from the years 1999 to 2010. Women, however, have not shown any significant increases in obesity, except for non-Hispanic black women and Mexican-American women.
Despite the increase in obesity in males, the researchers concluded that men and women were roughly equal in the percentage of obesity, with men at 35.5% and women at 35.8% during 2009 to 2010 when the study was completed.
Trends in Body Mass Index were noted to be similar to obesity trends in both men and women over the course of the study.
This study was titled "Prevalence of Obesity and Trends in the Distribution of Body Mass Index Among US Adults, 1999-2010," and was conducted by four doctors and scholars for the Journal of American Medical Association.
