Germany's ZEW economic sentiment index rose 31.5 in January against the expectation of an increase of 12 in month. The index rose 6.9 in December.
The euro edged higher against its major rivals after the data. As of 5:02 am ET, the common currency was trading at 118.23 against the yen, 1.3327 against the dollar, 1.2396 against the Swiss franc and 0.8420 against the pound.
