Tina Turner is no longer an American citizen. She has given up that right to become a Swiss citizen after living in the country for almost 20 years.

She has resided in Kuesnacht, a Zurich suburb, since 1995, and according to a Swiss report, the government has granted the 73-year-old, and native of Nutbush, Tennessee citizenship.

"I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here . . . I cannot imagine a better place to live," Turner said in Blick, a German newspaper. Her rep added that "[she] will therefore also give back her U.S. citizenship."

Turner's music is popular in Switzerland, with a gospel album she released in 2009 peaking at number seven on the Swiss charts. Children Beyond, a 2011 follow-up, also made the Swiss charts. Turner is currently recording the sequel to that album.
