Deputy Governor Lars Svensson will leave Riksbank on May 20 when his period of office expires and is unlikely to run for a second term, the central bank said in a statement on Monday.

Svensson has been a member of the Riksbank's Executive Board since May 21, 2007. He was an advocate of steeper interest rate cuts than envisaged by the Board, but failed to gain majority support for his policy stance.

"With his solid academic background he has provided an excellent contribution to developing the analysis work at the Riksbank and has successfully created interest in monetary policy issues both in Sweden and abroad," General Council Chairman Johan Gernandt and Vice Chairman Sven-Erik Österberg said in a joint comment.

The council said that Deputy Governor Barbro Wickman-Parak's period of office also expires in May and is working on finding replacements for both the officials.
