Mauritius trade deficit for May narrowed from the same month a year ago, data released by the Central Statistical Office showed on Tuesday.
Trade deficit shrunk to MUR 5.27 billion in May from MUR 6.64 billion recorded last year. In April, the country registered a shortfall of MUR 6.33 billion.
On a yearly basis, exports fell 1.8 percent in May and imports declined 10.8 percent.
Month-on-month, imports decreased 5.6 percent, while exports grew 4.9 percent.
The island's main export destinations during May were the U.K., France and Italy. Meanwhile, imports largely came from India, China and France.
