Larry Ramos, guitarist and vocalist for the Association, has died at the age of 72, following a year long struggle with cancer. His daughter announced the news on the 1960s band's Facebook page:
"My Dad, Larry Ramos passed away this evening (April 30). As you all know he had been ill for the past three years following his heart attack in 2011. What you don't know is he was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma last year . . . While his illnesses were trying at times, his passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by family." In the early 1960s, Ramos became a member of the folk outfit, the New Christy Minstrels, leaving the group a few years later. By 1967 he had joined the Association, scoring two big hits - "Windy" and "Never My Love" - with the group.
The band broke up in 1973 but reformed several times over the years for tours.
