The Labor Department is set to release its jobless claims report for the week ended September 26th at 8:30 am ET Thursday. Economists expect claims to have increased to 272,000 from 267,000 in the previous week.
Ahead of the data, the greenback showed mixed trading against its major opponents. While the greenback held steady against the euro and the pound, it declined against the yen. Against the franc, the currency rose.
The greenback was valued at 1.0992 against the euro, 1.5142 against the pound, 0.9780 against the franc and 119.76 against the yen as of 8:25 am ET.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
