A Canadian engineer has designed a new concept of a superfast aircraft called Skreemr, 10 times the speed of sound and five times faster than Concorde.
That means the proposed Skreemr jet could cross the Atlantic in an incredible half an hour at speeds of up to Mach 10.
Imagine a luxury aircraft with four wings and two large rockets on the rear carrying 75-passengers taking off from London, flying at a speed of about 7,673 mph, and landing in New York after just 30 minutes.
However, the Canadian inventor and engineer Charles Bombardier is not yet convinced if his purely conceptual design will ever be realised due to the current limitations of scramjet technology.
It's also not clear whether the idea will prove commercially viable.
Skreemr's engines use the speed of the aircraft to forcefully compress the incoming air for engine combustion instead of from a tank onboard. This would allow the Skreemr to hit speeds exceeding Mach 10 - 10 times the speed of sound.
The scramjet technology is reportedly being tested in the U.S. and China for military purposes.
