Randy Travis fills the role of a dying country music legend in the upcoming new film The Price.
The Price, which was filmed before Travis suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013, also stars Travis' real-life wife Mary as an old-flame who gave birth to his son 20-something years earlier. The son, played by The Voice alum James Dupré, is an aspiring country star himself, and wins a TV singing competition. Travis' and Dupré's character at first butt heads but eventually find paths to forgiveness, as Travis' character faces his deathbed.
"It was a dream come true," Dupré tells Rolling Stone Country of working with Travis. "I remember the first day he showed up on set, I was really excited to meet him and unsure what to expect. Before I even had a chance to worry, he came up to me and shook my hand, pulled out his guitar and said he wanted to show me a new song he'd written. I couldn't believe it! So we jammed out for a bit, then went to work."
The Price comes out on Netflix and DVD June 15.
