South Korea Industrial Output Eases 0.2% In June

Industrial production in South Korea dipped 0.2 percent on month in June, Statistics Korea said on Friday.

That beat forecasts for a decline of 0.6 percent following the 2.7 percent jump in May.

On a yearly basis, industrial output gained 0.8 percent - again beating forecasts for 0.2 percent after jumping 4.7 percent in the previous month.

The index of all industry production was up 0.6 percent on month and 4.8 percent on year after gaining 1.9 percent on month and 4.9 percent on year in the previous month.

The Index of professional, scientific and technical activities and mining and quarrying went down, but construction and wholesale and retail trade went up from the same period of the previous year.

The Manufacturing Production Index eased 0.2 percent on month but increased by 1.1 percent on year. The Producer's Shipment Index added 0.2 percent on month and 1.3 percent on year. The Producer's Inventory Index fell 0.1 percent on month and 1.6 percent on year.

The Production Capacity Index eased 0.1 percent on month but increased 0.3 percent on year. The Index of Capacity Utilization Rate shed 1.3 percent on month and 3.9 percent on year. The Manufacturing Average Capacity Utilization Rate in June was 72.1 percent, down 0.9 percentage points from the previous month.

The Index of Services jumped 1.0 percent on month and 5.4 percent on year. The Retail Sales Index climbed 1.0 percent on month and 8.9 percent on year. The Equipment Investment Index advanced 4.5 percent on month and 2.0 percent on year.

The Domestic Machinery Shipment Index slipped 5.0 percent on year. The value of Domestic Machinery Orders Received in June increased 24.3 percent on year. The value of Construction Completed at constant prices increased 3.1 percent on month and 18.5 percent on year.

The value of Construction Completed at current prices jumped 4.1 percent on month and 19.9 percent on year. The value of Construction Orders Received at current prices fell 13.9 percent on year.

The Composite Coincident Index added 0.4 percent on month. The Cyclical Component of Composite Coincident Index, which reflects current economic situations, gained 0.2 points from the previous month.

The Composite Leading Index in June picked up 0.2 percent from the previous month. The Cyclical Component of Composite Leading Index, which predicts the turning point in business cycle, eased.1 points from the previous month.
