(Agencia CMA Latam) - Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said that the business ties between his country and the United States "are growing stronger" after a meeting with the U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who is visiting Colombia. Pence is on his first visit to Latin America and will also travel to Panama, Chile, and Argentina.
After meeting with Santos, Pence said that Colombia represents the future of Latin America.
"Under your leadership, Mr. President, Colombia today represents the future of Latin America. It is a future of freedom, security and prosperity, and the United States are with you," Pence said in a joint statement with Santos in Cartagena.
Pence also announced US support for Colombia's aspirations to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The visit is part of the strategic partnership between both countries and involves the support of the United States in post-conflict and peace-building in Colombia, cooperation in the war on drugs and organized transnational crime, deepening trade ties, and investment opportunities.
