Slovenia's largest commercial business and shopping complex is set to become a 'Genuine Bitcoin City.'
In almost all the 500 retail stores spread across the 475,000 square meter Bitcoin City in capital Ljubljana, transactions will shortly be made in Bitcoin.
For this, Fintech startup Eligma created a cryptocurrency transaction system "Elipay."
Without waiting for its testing, which is scheduled for mid-June at the BTC City shopping and business center, the point-of-sale system is being used in a number of retailers in BTC City. They include Atlantis water park, Al Capone, Babadu, Bijoux modni dodatki, Big Bang, istyle, Vodno mesto San Martino, Sneakers, Minicity, and Kibuba.
There are also some one-way cryptocurrency ATMs on the premises, as well as a Blockchain Think Tank and the biggest crypto mining rig in Slovenia.
BTC company said its aim is to convert BTC City into "a genuine Bitcoin City - the first of its kind in the world to provide its visitors, consumers and business partners with an ecosystem that will develop and integrate advanced technologies based on state-of-the-art approaches (blockchain, AI, VR [Virtual reality], AR [Augmented reality], ML [Machine Learning] and the world of cryptocurrencies."
The recent visit of Slovenian Prime Minister Dr. Miro Cerar to the BTC City was a boost to the novel trade concept.
Cerar was in BTC City on May 25 to open the international conference on the digitization of society and blockchain technology, organized by the Adriatic Council.
On the sidelines of the conference, he visited the restaurant Restavracija City, and bought a cup of coffee using Elipay payment facility. A top official of the Prime Minister's office made the payment in cryptocurrency.
