Cryptocurrency exchange Cointree announced its partnership with automated billing platform Gobill, allowing Australians to settle their household bills with various cryptocurrencies.
In a Twitter post, Cointree said its partnership will enable automated bill payments with cryptocurrency. This is regardless of whether the utility or service providers accept payments in cryptocurrencies.
The customers of Cointree, which is licensed under AUSTRAC, can use any coins in their accounts to pay their bills. The service will be accessible to users when they link their wallets to their Gobill accounts.
Under the deal, Gobill, which has an Australian financial services license under ASIC, will take users' digital currency funds and pay their bills on their behalf. They will act as an intermediary between the two parties. Gobbill said the users will be able to pay their bills by credit card, bank account or cryptocurrency.
Between 50 and 100 cryptocurrencies will be part of the payment option. At present, Cointree supports 40 major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ether, Ripple, and Litecoin.
In July, major crypto exchange Coinbase had partnered with London-based online gift card startup WeGift to enable Australian crypto holders to convert their crypto balances to e-gift cards.
