Country music superstar Keith Urban covered "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd as a tribute to Ed King, who passed away in 2018, at Jack Daniel's Music City Midnight in Nashville, Tennessee, on New Year's Eve.
Urban was joined by Peter Frampton onstage for "Sweet Home Alabama," which saw both of them rocking out together.
Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King died in August at the age of 68. King had joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972, replacing bassist Leon Wilkeson. King left Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1975, but re-joined the band in 1987.
During the show, Urban performed several songs as a tribute to artists who passed away in 2018. He performed a medley of "Zombie" by The Cranberries in honor of Dolores O'Riordan, "Respect" in honor of Aretha Franklin, "Rolling In My Sweet Baby's Arms" in honor of Roy Clark, and "Wake Me Up" in honor of Avicii.
In addition to Urban and Frampton, the lineup featured Judah & the Lion, Caitlyn Smith, Devon Gilfillian, Brett Young, and the Fisk Jubilee Singers.
The 10th annual Nashville New Year's Eve event ended with a Music Note Drop and fireworks to welcome the New Year. The event reportedly attracted 175,000 to 200,000 attendees.
