Lamb Of God have dropped the band's first song and its video after a gap of five years.

The song, titled "Checkmate," is the first single from Lamb Of God's upcoming album.

The band announced that the self-titled album will come out on May 8.

"'Checkmate' brings together all the components of the Lamb of God sound that we've been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band," Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton said in a statement.

He added, "Re-energized and reignited, this is Lamb of God 2020. We've never been more excited."

The song's lyrics are apparently targeted at President Donald Trump.

Randy Blythe, who is the lead vocalist and lyricist of the heavy metal band, is a known critic of Trump.
