Kelly Clarkson covered The Isley Brother's 60's independence anthem "It's Your Thing" during the "Kellyoke" segment of her talk show on Monday, October 18.
"It's your thing, do what you wanna do/ I can't tell you who to sock it to," Clarkson crooned during the cover.
"It's Your Thing," a funk single by The Isley Brothers, was released in 1969. The anthem was an artistic response to Motown chief Berry Gordy's demanding hold on his artists after the Isleys left the label in late 1968.
The track peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's all-genre Hot 100 chart and topped the Billboard R&B chart. The song is ranked No. 420 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The song also earned The Isley Brothers their first and only Grammy for best R&B vocal performance by a duo or group in 1970. The group also won the Lifetime Achievement award in 2014.
