Ed Sheeran recently released a music video for "Eyes Closed," the lead single off his upcoming album, fifth studio album, - pronounced Subtract.

Directed by Mia Barnes, the music video shows Sheeran as he is followed by a blue monster, which represents grief.

The song supposedly pays tribute to his former music entrepreneur and close friend Jamal Edwards, who died in February 2022 from a drug overdose.

"This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and everything just reminds you of them and the things you did together," Sheeran explained.

He added, "You sorta have to take yourself out of reality sometimes to numb the pain of loss, but certain things just bring you right back into it."
