Charlie Puth has teamed up with country duo Dan + Shay for the new song, "That's Not How This Works."
Puth, who produced the song, co-wrote it with Dan Smyers. The song, which features solo vocals from Puth, accompanied only by his piano, narrates how a relationship moves back and forth.
The Phillip R. Lopez-directed video stars Sabrina Carpenter as Puth's love interest. The visuals show the pair navigate the highs and lows of a young toxic relationship.
"Stop reminding me of when we said forever/I know exactly what you're doin'," sing Dan + Shay on their verse. "When you say, 'You need to drop off all my sweaters'/It's just one of your excuses."
Puth and the duo then come together in the chorus, repeating the song's title track reflecting on the post-relationship return of a toxic ex.
"That's Not How This Works" is Dan + Shay's first release since a series of Christmas songs late last year.
