According to a recent APK teardown reported by Android Authority, it has been discovered that Samsung is incorporating satellite connectivity support into its Emergency SOS, Samsung Messages, and Phone applications.
The code found in the Emergency SOS version, Samsung Messages version, and Phone version 15.2.80 indicates that users will potentially be able to send emergency texts via satellite when they are out of mobile network range.
The Phone app's code also suggests that users will have the capability to send and receive messages in Satellite mode, especially during emergencies when a mobile network is not available. It has been specified that to use satellite messaging, Samsung users will need to set Google Messages as their default messaging app, as Samsung Messages will not initially support this feature.
This new feature is anticipated to be included in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series through Google Messages. However, Android Authority advises caution, noting that the presence of a feature in an APK teardown does not guarantee its public release.
The integration of satellite connectivity for messaging has been a development trend, with Google Messages previously providing this functionality for Android users, followed by AT&T and T-Mobile announcing plans to support satellite texting for their customers, and Apple introducing this feature for iPhones in iOS 18.
