The Goo Goo Dolls' hit song "Iris" has been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America as it also surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify.
Written for the soundtrack of the 1998 film City of Angels, "Iris" was included on the sixth Goo Goo Dolls album, Dizzy Up the Girl, and released as a single on April 1, 1998.
"Iris" reached No. 1 in Australia, Canada, and Italy, number three in the United Kingdom, and No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Ireland, it is one of the bestselling singles of all time. "Iris" is the Goo Goo Dolls' signature song and has received critical acclaim, being described as a "ubiquitous" staple for the band's live sets and is one of the best-selling singles of all time.
Upon its release, "Iris" became the second in a string of hits from City of Angels: Music from the Motion Picture.
"Iris" also appears on the soundtrack of the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, which helped the song resurge in popularity and reappear on the Billboard charts.
The four-time Grammy-nominated track that went viral on TikTok has been covered by great artists such as Billy Joel, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Phoebe Bridgers, and Maggie Rogers.
