Russia's Gazprom (GAZP,OGZPY.PK,OGZPF.PK) has stopped natural gas supplies through Ukraine as its five-year transit agreements expired on January 1 at 8 a.m. Moscow time.

"Due to the repeatedly and expressly stated refusal of the Ukrainian party to extend said agreements, Gazprom has been deprived of any technical and legal possibility of supplying gas for transit across Ukraine starting from January 1, 2025. At 8 am (Moscow time), the supplies of Russian gas for its transmission across Ukraine have been stopped," Gazprom said in an X post.

The Ukrainian GTS said it will operate without the transit of Russian gas starting January 1, 2025.

The Ukrainian GTS announced that at 7 a.m. Kyiv time on January 1, 2025, the Agreement on Interaction between LLC "GTS Operator of Ukraine" and PJSC "Gazprom" for Physical Connection Points of the Russian Federation-Ukraine, which was dated December 30, 2019, expired. Consequently, the transportation of natural gas from the "Sudzha" entry point on the eastern border of Ukraine to the exit points on the western and southern borders has been suspended. The GTS Operator of Ukraine has informed international partners about this in accordance with the established procedure.

The Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator agreed to increase guaranteed capacities to ensure the possibility of supplying gas both to Ukraine and through Ukraine to European consumers.
