Construction, services and property company Kier Group Plc (KIE.L) said on Wednesday that it has secured a 139 million pounds contract from Severn Trent Plc to upgrade the Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works in Leicestershire.

Catering to around 750,000 residents, the project aims to meet rising demand and stricter environmental standards by enhancing treatment performance, improving water quality, and boosting the site's resilience, the company added.

According to Kier Group, the main upgrades included in the contract are a 24 percent increase in dry weather flow capacity and a 20 percent rise in full flow to treatment. Work will commence in the summer of 2025, with completion expected by 2028.

The company said that as Severn Trent's third-largest wastewater facility, Wanlip is a central part of its Green Recovery programme. The scheme, built on a 20-year partnership with Kier, follows an earlier early contractor involvement phase and will be delivered with specialist partners.

Commenting on the contract, Andrew Bradshaw, Group Managing Director, Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks, said, "This is a significant project for Severn Trent, and we're pleased to be bringing our expertise to help deliver it. Our relationship spans more than 20 years, and this is one of many projects we'll be delivering in this AMP8 cycle. Collaboration will be key to making it a success, with all parties co-located in our new welfare village, working together to ensure safe, efficient, and successful delivery."
