U.K.-headquartered Oxford Nanopore Technologies plc (ONT), that provides molecular sensing technology based on nanopores, on Wednesday announced that it has launched legal action against MGI Australia Pty Ltd. et al., in the Federal Court of Australia?for infringing four of the company's Australian patents following the announcement of the launch of its "Cyclone SEQ WT-02" in Australia.
Oxford Nanopore said it has generated substantial proprietary intellectual property which is protected by patents granted in the U.S., Europe, Australia and other jurisdictions.? Protecting the intellectual property would ensure that investments in new technology can be made available to customers and partners.
The company said that the decision to commence legal proceedings has been carefully considered and reflects its responsibility to protect the intellectual property that underpins its sensing platform, which is now widely used across Research and Applied sectors in Australia.
