Manulife Financial Q2 Income Rises

Manulife Financial (MFC.TO) reported a profit for its second quarter that increased from the same period last year

The company's bottom line came in at $1.789 billion, or $0.98 per share. This compares with $1.042 billion, or $0.52 per share, last year.

Excluding items, Manulife Financial reported adjusted earnings of $1.726 billion or $0.95 per share for the period.

The company's total revenue for the period increased to $15.6 billion compared to $12.9 billion a year ago.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
