Japanese pharmaceutical wholesaler Alfresa Holdings Corp. (2784.T) Tuesday said that it has signed a basic agreement with Singapore-based Ai Ken Pharma Asia Pacific Holdings Pte. Ltd., to jointly develop pharmaceutical businesses in Southeast Asia. The companies are also holding discussions regarding a potential capital and business alliance.

As part of the basic agreement, making good use of its experience in Vietnam, Alfresa will support Ai Ken Pharma, a pharmaceutical distributor, in expanding its presence across Southeast Asia along with building a full-agency business within the Alfresa Group. This collaboration aims to strengthen sales channels for Japanese pharmaceutical companies in the region and also enhance the quality of local medical care.

Alfresa Holdings said that both companies will continue their discussions on the alliance, giving priority to pharmaceutical development in Vietnam and also joint proposals to Japanese pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers seeking entry into the Southeast Asian market.

According to Alfresa Holdings, while the immediate financial impact for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026 is expected to be limited, the partnership is anticipated to enhance the company's corporate value in the medium to long run.
