ABIONYX Pharma (ABNX.PA), a next-generation biotechnology company, on Wednesday reported that it is in advanced strategic discussions with IHU SEPSIS, the world's first Centre dedicated to sepsis, to redefine the therapeutic landscape of sepsis.
Sepsis is a severe, life-threatening condition affecting over 50 million people annually. In sepsis, the body's immune system overreacts to an infection, causing tissue and organ damage. Without prompt treatment, it can progress to septic shock, organ failure, and death.
IHU SEPSIS unites 275 researchers, 94 clinicians, and 60 multidisciplinary teams in a global network spanning North America, Europe, and emerging regions, making it a hub for innovation in sepsis. Also, the institute teams up with Sepsis Canada and the Global Sepsis Alliance, reinforcing its global reach and ability to deploy clinical protocols and scalable care solutions worldwide.
ABIONYX Pharma Leverages its proprietary apoA-I-based technology platform to develop biologics and HDL-derived vectors that target the immune and inflammatory dysregulation underlying sepsis and other severe diseases.
Through this partnership, ABIONYX Pharma and IHU SEPSIS aim to establish the first fully integrated global platform for sepsis treatment, combining ABIONYX's genetically validated apoA-I-based therapeutics and HDL-derived vectors with IHU SEPSIS's infrastructure and international patient advocacy network. ApoA-I or apolipoprotein A-I is a protein that plays a key role in how the body handles cholesterol.ApoA-I is the main protein component of HDL or high-density lipoprotein — often called good cholesterol.
Meanwhile, a recent study published in Nature Scientific Reports by Campbell, K.R., and team found that plasma apolipoprotein A-I is a causal protective factor in sepsis.
Notably, the research also concluded that plasma ApoAI levels provide significant causal protection in sepsis pathobiology, possibly by reducing circulating LPS levels, thus supporting the clinical credibility of apoA-I-based therapeutics and HDL-derived vectors for Sepsis and focused partnership.
ABIONYX shares were trading 5.14% lower at 4 Euros in the Paris Market.
