Acclaimed singer-songwriter Tenille Townes recently released an inspiring new anthem, "we could use a little more," off her forthcoming record, The Acrobat.
The quietly impactful single speaks to the polarizing society we live in and the need to have compassion and empathy for others. This new track was self-produced and solely written by Townes.
"We could use a little more" is Townes' third single off her highly anticipated album, due out April 10.
The beautifully penned song showcases Tenille's emotionally charged vocals paired with the powerful yet simple lyrics preaching the importance of treating others with care and love.
Townes is backing up this message by supporting organizations serving unhoused youth and is donating proceeds from the song to different youth shelters. She will also be visiting schools along her tour to perform the song with students.
Of the track, Tenille shared, "I think art's job is to tell the story of the time in which we live. To keep weaving the threads of humanity in the tapestry and existence of who we are. Writing this song came from an ache I feel for the divisiveness and fear that we are experiencing in our cultural tug-a-war right now and the continued tragedies that keep unfolding from that every day. We could use a lot more love around here. More eye contact. More empathy. More understanding. More recognition for our humanness. We are living in a time where it can feel hard to remember there is a common ground we are all standing on. But I don't believe the headlines and agendas that polarize our stories into an 'us' and a 'them' are any match for the love that exists at the core of who we are."
She continues, "There's so much noise in the world and holding on to the guitar and singing about how I feel, has always been my way of still choosing hope and holding up a flashlight in the darkness. Writing is my way of standing up for the love I believe we are all made of."
Townes kicked off The Living Room Tour earlier in March and includes an album release show in Nashville on April 9.
