WHO Coordinating Evacuations From Hantavirus-hit Cruise Ship

An outbreak of deadly hantavirus aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean has triggered an international public health response.

The World Health Organization said it is coordinating evacuations and risk assessments following the death of three people and multiple suspected infections on board MV Hondius. One patient remains in intensive care in South Africa.

Until now, one case has been confirmed after verification in a laboratory, but there are five additional suspected cases among those on board, WHO says.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
