Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan has announced that he will take his "A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness" live shows to the U.K. and Europe later this year.
The shows, in celebration of the band's third studio album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, kicked off in North America last year. Corgan took over the Lyric Opera House in Chicago for seven nights last November, portraying the album as a "completely new, sonic and visual experience."
"The success of translating Mellon Collie into operatic and classical form has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life," says Billy. "Where on each of the 7 sold out nights in Chicago we'd finish within the raucous wave of a standing ovation. So to now take it on the road, and to Europe, too says this magical dream doesn't have to end."
Corgan will play two shows at London's Royal Festival Hall on September 1 and 2 this year and then perform two shows in Antwerp, two in Paris, and one in Madrid later that month.
According to a press release, the shows look to "re-imagine and pay homage to the era-defining album of the same name, whilst also expanding the definition and intention of opera"."
Corgan composed the music alongside Grammy-nominated conductor James Lowe for "A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness Featuring Billy Corgan." The shows will see the rock icon take the stage alongside world class soloists and orchestras.
Ed Parks will be joining Corgan in London, Belgium and France, while Sydney Mancasola, Zoie Reams, Dominick Valdes Chenes and Dean Murphy will be on stage in Spain.
