More than 4.8 million people have been estimated to have rendered homeless as a result of an earthquake that hit China's southwestern Sichuan province earlier this week, according to the vice governor of the province.
Li Chengyun, the vice governor of Sichuan, told a news conference Friday that a total of 4,807,200 people have been forced into "temporary shelter" in the province.
More than 50,000 people have died in Monday's 7.9-magnitude earthquake, China's deadliest natural disaster in recent history.
Meanwhile, a powerful aftershock in China's Sichuan province has triggered landslides, blocked roads, and cut communication lines on Friday, Xinhua reported.
