Thursday morning, financial services company The Bank of New York Mellon (BK) Executive Chairman Thomas Renyi said that he plans to retire effective July 31.

The New York headquartered company said prior to the July 2007 merger of The Bank of New York and Mellon Financial, Renyi served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for The Bank of New York.

During his 10 years as CEO he effectively led The Bank of New York's transformation from a traditional commercial bank to a global leader in securities servicing.

The company said Renyi's career at The Bank of New York Mellon and its predecessor has spanned nearly four decades and included key leadership roles in securities servicing, credit policy and capital markets.

Renyi presently serves on the Boards of Directors of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated and The Clearing House, and is chairman of The Financial Services Roundtable.

The company also announced that its Chief Executive Officer Robert Kelly would assume the additional role of Chairman when Renyi retires.

BK closed Wednesday's regular trading session at $40.28.
