Charles Schwab Corp. (SCHW) said it appointed Walter Bettinger II as president and chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors effective Oct. 1, 2008.
Bettinger, who had previously served as president and chief operating officer, would succeed Company founder, chairman and chief executive, Charles Schwab. Charles Schwab will remain as executive chairman of the Board of Directors.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
