Ringo Starr hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his cover of the Johnny Burnette’s rockabilly hit “You’re Sixteen” on January 26, 1974. The track was released off Ringo’s 1973 self-titled hit album and features cameos by Paul McCartney and Harry Nilsson. When Ringo hit number one with “You’re Sixteen,” he grabbed the top spot from “Show and Tell” by Al Wilson. He held on for one week in the top spot before Barbra Streisand hit number one with “The Way We Were.” The track is one of the few number one hits ever to include a kazoo solo. In the book “The Record Producers,” producer Richard Perry later commented that working on “Ringo” was a high point in his career:“I would have to say that entire Ringo involvement and the experience of making that album was the greatest thrill of my musical career,” he explained.
