1967 - The Buckinghams' 'Kind Of A Drag' Hits #1

The Buckinghams scored a number one hit single with their track “Kind of a Drag” on February 18, 1967. The song served as the title number from their 1967 debut record and was penned by the Chicago-based songwriter Jim Holvay.

When “Kind of a Drag” hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100, it claimed the top spot from "I'm a Believer" by the Monkees. They held on for two weeks at number one before "Ruby Tuesday" by the Rolling Stones moved into the top position.

The track first entered the Hot 100 chart at number 90 on December 31, 1966. Over the course of seven weeks, it rose all the way to the top. It was an underdog success story for the band, who at the time was signed to an independent label called USA.
