Madonna Reaches Number One With 'Take A Bow' 17 Years Ago

1985 - Tears For Fears' 'Songs From The Big Chair' Released

Tears For Fears released their signature album, "Songs From The Big Chair," on February 25, 1985.

The British duo had put out one previous album, 1983's "The Hurting," which was a hit in the U.K. but did only modest business in the U.S. "Songs From The Big Chair" included many of the band's best-known tracks, like "Shout," "Head Over Heels" and the chart-topping single "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

The LP, which got its name from a line in the 1970s TV movie "Sybil," would eventually make the top of the album charts in the U.S. It first reached number one in July, and would spend another stint at the top in late August.

It would take more than four years before Tears For Fears put out a follow-up album, bringing out "The Seeds Of Love" in 1989. They have released three other studio efforts, including 2004's "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending," but none has approached the success of "Songs From The Big Chair."
