Van Halen scored a number one hit single with “Jump” on February 25, 1984. The track was released as part of their album “1984,” which also includes the tracks “Panama” and “Hot for Teacher.”

When “Jump” hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it grabbed the top spot from "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club. The rockers held on at number one through March 24, 1984 when "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins moved into the top spot.

Speaking with Musician magazine, David Lee Roth recalls the song’s birth:

“Eddie wrote this thing on synthesizer. I really hadn’t heard it in a long time . . . I heard it and it just killed me. It was perfect,” he says.
