The Beatles' George Harrison was born on February 25, 1943.Like the other members of the Fab Four, Harrison grew up in Liverpool. He was a school friend of future bandmate Paul McCartney. When McCartney joined John Lennon's Quarrymen, he eventually asked the singer if they could add Harrison as their guitarist. After an audition that took place on a city bus, Harrison was let into the band that would one day become the Beatles. Harrison was 15 when he joined the band in the late 1950s. Over the next few years, the group would play a steady stream of gigs in Liverpool and in Hamburg, Germany. By 1963, they had become one of the biggest bands in the U.K. The following year, they would spread Beatlemania, as the fever for the band had come to be known, to America.During his tenure with the Beatles, Harrison wrote songs like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something" and "Here Comes The Sun." Known for his love of Eastern culture, he is also credited with bringing Indian influences into Western pop music.Following the Beatles' disintegration, Harrison would launch a successful solo career. His debut solo effort, the 1970 triple album "All Things Must Pass," reached the top of the charts and included songs like "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life."Harrison died of cancer in 2001.
