Soul singers the Chi-Lites reached the top of the singles chart with "Oh Girl" on May 27, 1972.The song was written by group member Eugene Record, along with his girlfriend, singer Barbara Acklin. It was the group's only number one hit, though they had reached number three with their previous single, "Have You Seen Her," a tune also penned by Acklin and Record."Oh Girl" took over number one from "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack. It held on for a week, before being replaced by the Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There."
