1984 - Cyndi Lauper Hits #1 With ‘Time After Time’
1984 - Cyndi Lauper Hits #1 With ‘Time After Time’

Cyndi Lauper's signature track "Time After Time" reached the top of the singles chart on June 9, 1984.

While it was the follow-up to her best-known single, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun," "Time After Time" actually represented her first chart-topper. ("Girls” had peaked at number two.) Both songs appeared on her debut album "She's So Unusual."

"Time After Time" was written by Lauper, along with Rob Hyman, a member of the band the Hooters, who would go on to work with Patty Smyth on her 1987 LP "Never Enough." The song took over number one from Deniece Williams' "Let's Hear It For The Boy." It reigned for two weeks before being replaced by Duran Duran's "The Reflex."
