The White Stripes released their sixth studio effort, “Icky Thump,” on June 15, 2007. The album followed their 2005 release “Get Behind Me Satan,” and singles off the album include the title track, “Rag and Bone,” “You Don’t Know What Love Is,” and “Conquest.”

The album topped the U.K. album charts, hitting the peak position on June 24, 2007. When “Icky Thump” peaked, it claimed the top spot from “The Traveling Wilburys Collection” by Traveling Wilburys. The duo held on for one week at number one before “An End Has a Start” by Editors hit number one in the U.K.

The album’s title track was reportedly inspired by a phrase common in Northern England meaning “what the heck.” According to songfacts.com, Jack White heard his ex-wife, model Karen Elson, use the phrase “Ecky Thump,” and adapted the spelling for better understanding in America.
