Monica Reaches Number One With 'After The Storm' Nine Years Ago

1991 - Skid Row Hit #1 With ‘Slave To The Grind’
1991 - Skid Row Hit #1 With ‘Slave To The Grind’

Skid Row scored a number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with their second LP, “Slave to the Grind,” on June 29, 1991. The effort followed Skid Row’s eponymous breakout debut, which peaked at number six in 1989.

The album not only helped cement Skid Row as one of the preeminent metal bands of the early 1990s, it was also the first metal album to top the charts since Billboard began tracking sales via Nielsen SoundScan. Other heavy acts like Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and Pantera soon followed with number one albums.

And while “Slave to the Grind” was a commercial success for Skid Row, it did not produce a major hit single. They released just one single from the album, “Wasted Time,” which did not break the top 40 and peaked at number 88.
