Jim Morrison was found dead in his rented apartment on the rue Beautreillis on the Right Bank of Paris, France, on July 3, 1971. The Doors frontman was found in his bathtub by his girlfriend Pamela Courson and no autopsy was ever carried out, as the medical examiner saw no evidence of foul play. The 27-year-old had traveled to Paris to escape legal troubles and constant media presence. He had recently been arrested for lewd conduct at a Florida concert about which he spoke in his final interview. He told Rolling Stone that “it was never really an act, those so-called performances. It was a life and death thing.”After Morrison’s death, Courson claimed that the singer died of a drug overdose after snorting heroin that he believed was cocaine. Various conspiracy theories soon arose about the true cause of Morrison’s death, with suspicions fueled by the lack of an autopsy. One popular theory was that he died of an overdose at the Rock and Roll Circus nightclub and was moved to his apartment by drug dealers.
