Founding Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones was found dead on July 3, 1969. He was 27 years old. Jones, who had recently been kicked out of the band, was discovered at the bottom of a swimming pool at his home on Cotchford Farm in Sussex, England. The body was initially discovered by his girlfriend Anna Wohlin, who claimed he was still alive immediately after he was pulled from the water. Emergency responders found no pulse in the rock star and he was proclaimed to have died from “misadventure” by the coroner. It was also discovered that his heart and liver were severely damaged due to drug and alcohol abuse. Rumors soon spread that Jones had been drowned by a contractor with whom he had a longstanding dispute. In “Old Gods Almost Dead: The 40-Year Odyssey of the Rolling Stones” by Stephen Davis, Keith Richards says he questions the official cause of death:“I’ve seen Brian swim in terrible conditions. He was a godd*mned good swimmer and it’s hard to believe he died in a swimming pool.”
