Blind Melon released their second studio album, “Soup,” on August 15, 1995. The album followed their breakout self-titled debut and includes the singles “Galaxie” and “Toes Across the Floor.”

The album was released just eight weeks before the death of frontman Shannon Hoon. The album rose as high as number twenty-eight on the Billboard 200 chart in 1995 and “Galaxie” peaked at number eight on the Modern Rock Songs chart.

Hoon was just out of drug rehab when he was found dead of a cocaine overdose on the band’s tour bus in New Orleans. Lead guitarist Roger Stevens said his death was a shock:

“It sometimes got to the point where I was expecting the call. But when he died he was fresh out of rehab and was really healthy,” Stevens recalls in “The Encyclopedia of Dead Rock Stars” by Jeremy Simmonds.
