Elton John’s "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" debuted at number one on the album charts on August 30, 1975. The LP from John and his lyricist Bernie Taupin would remain at the top of the chart for seven weeks on the strength of such songs as “Someone Saved My Life Tonight,” “Bitter Fingers” and the album’s title track. John would release the album's sequel, “The Captain and the Kid,” more than 30 years later, in 2006.
